Small Shifts, Big Impact: Audible Book Reviews of “Tiny Habits” and “Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?”

Contents

If you’ve been here a minute, you already know I’m a huge fan of Audible. It’s been my go-to for sneaking more books into my days, whether driving between meetings or trying to multitask around the house.

This past April, I found myself leaning into personal development, not in a “crash course in life overhaul” way, but more like gathering small, meaningful tools to keep life moving in the right direction. Two books that helped shift my perspective ever so slightly and exactly when I needed it are Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg and Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? by Dr. Julie Smith.

Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg

If building better habits has ever felt like climbing Everest in flip-flops, Tiny Habits is the reset you didn’t know you needed. BJ Fogg, a behavior scientist at Stanford, teaches that you don’t need superhuman willpower — you need to think smaller. Like, one tooth flossed small.

I listened to this one on Audible and quickly realized that it isn’t a multitasking book. It’s the kind of listen that makes you want to hit pause, scribble notes in the margins (real or mental), and actually think about your own habits. Luckily, Fogg includes a downloadable PDF packed with simple worksheets, making it easier to translate listening into action.

Since finishing it, I’ve been layering tiny prompts into my day—like starting each morning with a simple, “Today’s going to be a good day.” It sounds silly, but it shifts the whole vibe.

Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? by Dr. Julie Smith

This book feels less like a self-help and more like a wise friend sliding into the passenger seat, coffee in hand, ready to talk you through the hard stuff.

Dr. Julie Smith, a clinical psychologist, breaks down emotional health into short, practical lessons — everything from managing anxiety to dealing with low motivation. Her style is warm, no-fluff, and deeply human, making it easy for me to stay connected while listening through Audible.

Just like Tiny Habits, this book comes with a gold-plated downloadable PDF: think quick diagrams, journaling prompts, and simple strategies you’ll actually want to use. It’s the kind of resource you’ll want nearby, especially on those tougher days when you’re unsure where to start.

Small Steps, Big Shifts

Both Tiny Habits and Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? reminded me that change doesn’t have to come in giant life overhauls. Sometimes, it’s one small step—one thought—one shift—that moves the needle.

If you want to add more personal development books to your Audible library, I can’t recommend these two enough. They’re practical, encouraging, and helpful for building a lighter, steadier daily life.

Here’s to tiny wins and better days ahead.
